A European copper alloy forging standard for CuNi2Si CW111C. A copper nickel silicon alloy, specially developed to provide a unique blend of mechanical and physical properties for high performance engineering. It is a precipitation hardened, multipurpose alloy exhibiting high strength characteristics, together with excellent wear properties whilst still retaining high electrical and heat conductivity properties. The superb strength characteristics are derived from a finely dispersed precipitate of Ni2Si developed from a closely controlled manufacturing process. The alloy can also be manufactured to EN 1652/12167/12165/12163 CW111C, ASTM B 411 C64700 and DIN 17672-1 W Nr 2.0855.

Key Features

A copper alloy containing nickel and silicon, that can be strengthened by heat treatment. Material solution heat treated at high temperature has a soft supersaturated alpha-phase structure, and subsequent precipitation hardening at lower temperature precipitates finely dispersed nickel silicide in the matrix. In this condition, the alloy exhibits high strength and hardness, combined with good wear resistance and conductivity. Cold working before precipitation hardening can further improve strength and hardness. The alloy has a good corrosion resistance in a variety of environments.

Typical Uses

A high copper alloy with extremely good electrical and heat conductivity that is strengthened by heat treatment and cold work.

Has good corrosion resistance and ductility.

Electrical

The alloy is used mainly for fasteners. In the electrical industry it is used for switch gear and circuit breakers
