Alloy K500 or Monel K-500 (UNS number N05500) is resistant to hydrogen sulphide, making the alloy highly suitable for sour gas applications. Low corrosion rates and toughness in seawater also make K500 (N05500) suitable for use in marine environments, including sub-sea and above-sea applications.

The high strength nature of the non magnetic alloy can be applied in a range of demanding environments. Kmonel, No5500 features low thermal expansion and long lasting corrosion resistance.

The alloy has been shown to be susceptible to pitting in stagnant water, and for long-term seawater applications, consider CNC-1 or T-1000.

Key Features

A nickel-copper alloy with additions of iron, manganese, aluminium and titanium, which can be precipitation-hardened to produce a range of properties.

The alloy has excellent corrosion-resistance, very high strength and has good weldability. Nickel K500 has low corrosion rates in seawater and brackish flowing waters.

Resistant to corrosion in hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid in non-aerated conditions.

Typical Uses

Chemical: The alloy is used in chemical, heat exchange and hydrocarbon processing equipment for pumps, valves, shafts, fittings and fasteners.

Marine: The corrosion resistant nature of the alloy means that it is ideal for marine environments both subsea and above sea. Examples of use include splash zone sheathings in offshore structures, propeller and pump shafts.

  • Subsea: service screens, housings, filters, piping and fittings
  • Above sea: Fasteners, springs and chains
