A UK Defence Standard for 90/10 Cupro Nickel forgings, rod and section. The alloy CuNi10 is supplied in the wrought condition, has very good corrosion resistance in sea water and does not suffer from stress corrosion cracking. Def Stan 02-779 is also completely immune to bio-fouling, and ideal for applications with extrended exposure to aggressive marine environments. This specification has been superseded by Def Stan 02-879 Part 2.

Key Features

The addition of nickel to copper improves strength and corrosion resistance but good ductility is retained. Copper-nickel alloys have excellent resistance to marine corrosion and biofouling.

Copper-nickel alloys are widely used for marine applications due to their excellent resistance to seawater corrosion, high inherent resistance to biofouling and good fabricability.

They have provided reliable service for several decades whilst offering effective solutions to modern technological challenges.

Typical Uses

Cupro nickel is used extensively in sea water application where its excellent corrosion resistance and ani fouling properties make it a popular alloy for Off Shore oil platforms, fish farms and general marine cladding where sea growths are a problem.
